Part One- How we create Comic Books
We begin the New Year with a blog series. How do we create our comic books?
KikaMika Comics is an Independent Comic book publisher. We create our own Intellectual Property and sell our work with no formal Distribution other than in-person sales via Conventions, word of mouth and limited shipping.
But how do we create a comic book? Where does the process begin? How is the artwork and scripting done? How does a book get printed?
All of these questions and more will be discussed in the following weeks. We will let you follow the journey of a new project that we are really excited about from start to finish.
Keith and I are currently working hard on a deadline for a Grant application. “The goal of the Creators for Creators grant is to help pave the way for the next generation of comics creators by supporting their work financially and through mentorship, as well as providing opportunities for their creations to reach a wide audience. We plan to give $30,000 to a single cartoonist or writer/artist duo in order to support the creation of a new and original work of a length between sixty-four and one hundred pages over the course of a single year. The recipient will be selected by committee according to rigorous criteria.”
This opportunity is too important to pass up. This means, our current series, Saltwater, must be put on hold. So, we are working hard on the submission. Scripting is complete and production design, including characters and locations are in process as we speak.
We have never created a single project of the size and scope before. But I had a concept and story in the works well before we learned about the Grant.
The following Blog entries are how we do it. Follow us as we create.
